Remote Management (telegestión) is the remote control and monitoring of technical installations. In the outdoor lighting of an industrial or business park, it allows turning on, off, or dimming luminaire intensity from a control center, without needing to send an operator to physically handle the electrical panel.
Remote Management Levels
There are two main levels:
- At Header (Control Cabinet): Controls on/off switching for the entire circuit.
- Point-to-Point: Each luminaire has a communication node, allowing each light point to be regulated individually.
Benefits: Savings and Flexibility
Remote management is the most powerful tool for active energy efficiency. It allows adapting light to actual needs: lowering intensity to 50% during late night hours, or raising it to 100% during events or emergencies, generating massive electrical savings.
Remote management and CMMS: where Maptainer fits
The big drawback of remote management is that each manufacturer has its own closed software, and the operations manager ends up with several screens open. Moreover, remote management detects the fault, but does not manage the intervention that fixes it.
Remote management, connections to IoT or SCADA platforms, receiving telemetry and operating hardware are outside the scope of Maptainer. Its role is in maintenance management:
- Inventory: it can record, as an asset property, which elements have remote management and from which manufacturer, and show it on the map with thematic styling.
- Incident creation via the API: the remote management system, or a middleware, can create incidents in Maptainer through the public API. From there they follow the same process as any other: SLA, work order, planning, and closure.
- Back to the source system: outgoing webhooks report the creation and status changes of work orders and incidents.
