Cloud Computing is the delivery of computing services (servers, storage, databases, networks, software) over the Internet ("the cloud"). Instead of owning a local physical data center, you rent access to sophisticated technological resources from a cloud provider.
This model has democratized technology: a small maintenance contractor can now access the same computing power and security as a multinational corporation, paying only for what they use.
Security and Availability
A common myth is that "data is safer in my office." The reality is the opposite. Cloud providers invest millions in cybersecurity, firewalls, and redundancy. If the power goes out at your office or the local server burns down, you lose the data. In the cloud, your data is replicated across multiple secure geographic locations.
Maptainer: Native Cloud
Maptainer is not old software adapted to the internet; it is Cloud Native. This means:
- Grows with the inventory: The map is served as vector tiles, so a network of one hundred thousand elements can be browsed without paging or filtering.
- Browser and app access: The management web app, the customer portal, and the field app, which also works without coverage.
- Updates without installations: New versions arrive without patches or migrations on your computers.
- Data in the European Union: The platform is hosted on OVHcloud, in EU data centers, and routing and the base map run inside the installation itself, without sending positions to third parties.
